Restorative Dentistry

Dental Fillings

Fillings are used to replace tooth structure that has been damaged by decay or trauma. First, the cavity in the tooth is removed. Next, a white filling material made of composite resin is placed, after which a UV light is used to cure (harden) the material. The filling is then adjusted to fit your smile and bite.

Crowns (Same-Day Available by Appointment)

A dental crown is used to protect a tooth that has become too weak to support your chewing without a higher risk of fracturing/breaking. The tooth is cleaned and prepared, after which a crown (cap) is placed to cover the tooth. This crown is tooth colored. In our office, we can make most crowns same day utilizing our CEREC/Digital Scanning technology.

Bridges

A dental bridge is one way in restorative dentistry to replace a missing tooth. If a missing tooth has two structurally sound teeth on either side, those remaining teeth can be used to hold a tooth in the missing space.

Implants

A dental bridge is one way in restorative dentistry to replace a missing tooth. If a missing tooth has two structurally sound teeth on either side, those remaining teeth can be used to hold a tooth in the missing space.

Dentures and Partials

Dentures and Partials are a way to replace multiple missing teeth. Dentures can be supported by just the gums, or with implants. We recommend a consultation to review your options.

Inlays/Onlays

An inlay/onlay is one option to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay or trauma. It is a more conservative option than a crown, as less tooth structure is removed. The ability to complete an inlay/onlay will depend upon the amount of tooth that has been compromised.

DO I NEED A TOOTH EXTRACTION?

Dr. Leeson may recommend a tooth extraction if your tooth is causing you problems. There are a few different reasons to why you might need a tooth extraction. Some of the common reasons include tooth infection, loose teeth, broken or cracked teeth, and wisdom teeth removal. So, how do you know if you need a tooth extraction? One of the common signs for this treatment is excruciating pain. Visit 4th Street Family Dentistry for a tooth extraction consultation with Dr. Leeson.

LOOSE TEETH

Your teeth are likely to become loose once you’ve developed gum disease. Periodontal disease destroys your gum tissue and bone, which explains why your teeth may feel loose. If the situation worsens, you may need to see Dr. Leeson for a tooth extraction. Consult with a St. Petersburg dentist about your loose teeth right away.

TOOTH INFECTION

A tooth infection can feel like the worst pain in the world. Tooth infections will typically arise if there’s a lack of good oral hygiene. Signs and symptoms of a tooth infection include throbbing pain, sensitivity, swelling, fever, earaches, and pressure. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important that you consult with your Petersburg dentist ASAP. Dr. Brian Lesson will examine your tooth and decide whether or not a tooth extraction is necessary. There’s a chance that you could save the tooth if the infection is not severe. It’s always best to see a professional because an untreated tooth infection can spread throughout your body, which is potentially life-threatening.

BROKEN TEETH

A broken tooth can be extremely painful. We highly recommend seeing an emergency dentist in St. Petersburg, Fl right away. Keep in mind that delaying treatment can make the pain worse. It is likely that you will have trouble chewing foods and drinking very hot or cold drinks with a broken tooth. If you broke your tooth, you may need a tooth extraction. Visit Dr. Leeson at 4th Street Family Dentistry to see what your options are.

WISDOM TEETH REMOVAL

You can think of your wisdom teeth as an extra set of molars. If you don’t have the extra space in your mouth to accommodate your wisdom teeth, you’ll need to get them removed at some point. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause extreme discomfort. They may end up shifting your teeth or becoming infected. Majority of people have to get their wisdom teeth removed between ages 17-25 years old, but there are people who have them removed later on in life. Consult with your St. Petersburg dentist to see when you need your wisdom teeth extracted.

DO TOOTH EXTRACTIONS HURT?

A tooth extraction is not painful, but it is normal to feel some discomfort after the treatment. At 4th Street Family Dentistry, your comfort is one of our top priorities. We understand that having a tooth pulled can make you feel uneasy, which is why we offer oral sedation to our patients. Once your treatment is completed, follow the post-op instructions recommended by your St. Pete dentist below. If you have any questions about your recovery, contact our office today.
